Weary of all of the images of so called “ perfection” from television and women’s magazines…. Unessalyn Sweet, a local artist in Atlanta, Georgia, created MyJunkyTrunk, LLC. Unessalyn realized as a teen attending a high school filled predominantly with Caucasian students that she didn’t look like the rest of the girls in her classes or on the school dance team. As she grew into womanhood she discovered that the challenge of being what mainstream America deemed beautiful, (between a size zero and a size four) had become increasingly difficult to attain.As an adult, she decided to embrace her curves rather than warring against them. Soon after launching MyJunkyTrunk, LLC, women from different cities and even of different races began to express to her their displeasure with the unrealistic ideals of society regarding body image. They love the idea of art that helps them begin to embrace the God-given curves that they possess. MyJunkyTrunk, LLC offers paintings, prints, t-shirts, journals, and more that showcase colorful, funky, and unique expressions of healthy, active, shapely women doing their thing! All of the images on t-shirts contain catchy titles or phrases that add humor and fun. They are already causing quite a buzz in Atlanta! Finally, a way to promote a positive body image in a different and exciting way!
